Translate Military Experience into a Civilian Record
For people leaving the military who need civilian employers to read the value of their service.
The Living Professional Record (LPR) is a worker-owned, evidence-linked record of a person's real professional work, created by Jeffrey Paul Chamberlain, from which résumés, LinkedIn profiles, interview answers, bios and applications are rendered.
Start by translating the work, not the acronyms.
Civilian employers may not understand your rank, MOS, branch-specific language, units, billets, schools, awards, deployments, or military systems.
The problem
Military transition can be frustrating because your experience may be significant, but hard to recognize from the outside.
The employer may not know how to read that.
So the goal is not to make your military service sound less military.
The goal is to make the value legible.
The Record Process
Capture the work
Recall one real episode of work, exactly as it happened.
Pick one role, assignment, deployment, project, or responsibility from your military experience.
Name what you actually did
Separate your responsibility and actions from the noise around them.
What did I plan, coordinate, train, build, maintain, improve, inspect, brief, or lead?
Identify the evidence
Connect the work to artifacts, outcomes, metrics, feedback, or systems.
What evidence exists.
Turn work into claims
State what you can now honestly say you built, led, improved, or enabled.
What the work proves.
Render from the record
Draw résumé bullets, profiles, interview stories, and bios from the source.
The résumé is only the translation.
Keep the record alive
Return, add new episodes, and maintain a source of truth over time.
